The Clifford House has just undergone major renovations which include new kitchen, living room, bathrooms, decks and laundry facilities.

Between rentals the house is professionally cleaned and maintained.

Hope Town is located in the Abacos, Bahamas about 175 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida. The two main islands, Great Abaco and Little Abaco are flanked on the east by a string of small cays that stretch more than 130 miles. Some of the more familiar names are Elbow Cay (Hope Town), Great Guana Cay, Lubbers Quarters, and Green Turtle Cay (New Plymouth). The calm waters between the cays and Abaco are popular with boaters. This area is known as the sailing capital of the Bahamas with boats still being manufactured on Man-O-War Cay.

Hope Town is a small settlement located on Elbow Cay. Elbow Cay is an island approximately 6 miles long and 1/4 mi. wide. The eastern boundary of Elbow Cay is the Atlantic Ocean. A magnificent barrier reef protects several miles of beautiful white sand beach and the unbelievably clear, turquoise water that are filled with fish and dolphin. Hope Town Harbour is dominated by the famous candy striped lighthouse, built by the British Imperial Lighthouse Service in 1863.

The reason that you're coming to The Bahamas is to get away from the big city turmoil and that includes dress requirements, so your wardrobe should reflect the informality that you will experience. There is no requirement for jacket/tie for the men or dressy clothes and stockings for the women. Bring lightweight clothing; shorts, T-shirts, short sleeved shirts, and maybe a pair of cotton slacks. Mostly what you'll wear is a swim suit although you should cover up if you are going into any of the villages or shops. From November to April it is a good idea to toss in a sweater for the occasional cool evening. A rain jacket is also handy in case of a spot of liquid sunshine. You will find that you will need sunscreen and perhaps a sun hat.

July 03 Dave,

We had the best time! Everyone in the town were so friendly and the food
was great. The house was perfect! We may come again in a couple of years.
Thank you so much! Sean & Heather

March 03

Our 2nd stay at this charming house. Feels like home - son mike & his wife spent a few days here with us - their first trip to Abaco - feel they will be back- yes we took care of the cat! Pat & Rosa, Harlan, Iowa

March 03 - Hello Ann and Dave,

Can't believe the three weeks are coming to an end. The time has flown by. I have loved missing all the below zero temps and the snow in New York.
The kitchen is super as are the changes upstairs. You have really done a wonderful job. The cabinets and counters in the kitchen are very attractive and I loved the new stove and oven. We had a couple cocktail parties on the patio around the table. It is so nice to have the six chairs. The furniture is very durable and should last a long time.
We love being in the center of Hope Town. I think I cooked more this February
than ever before taking advantage of the new, very efficient kitchen. There is always a breeze and the warmth of the sun. Very often the wind can be too much on the ocean or on the bay but in the settlement it is always pleasant. Lila - NY

Weather was fine but a little windy for fly fishing. Cottage was perfect and will be back. soon, maybe next time with our girls. Cracker P's is a must for good food & fun. Next time will be sure to bring a better camera & my watercolours. Walter & Paula, St. Augustine Fl.

Lovely stay in Hope Town! Loved this little house - the kids rambled around upstairs while we relaxed downstairs. Recommend the snorkelling at Fowl Cay & Mermaids - but if the wind is off shore, the snorkelling off the Hotel beaches is great too. Shane & Jane

March 24th

We had a great stay in Hope Town. Would you believe it - I lit the Light House Friday night! The cat Tootsie continues to be well feed, but doesn't like BBQ chicken. Thank you so much for sharing your place with us! Kandis & Steve Brockville Canada

May 27th

What a wonderful vacation - the weather was absolutely beautiful Wed - Saturday. We fished, snorkelled, walked on the beach, partied and relaxed. What an awesome little city! Brenda - Jacksonville, Fl

January 30th, 2001

Dear Sarah & Hudson,
This is a very special place. We've appreciated our stay here, especially the time we spent with your Mom & Dad. We had a great time! Tootsie comes by every so often to visit. She makes herself right at home. She loves canned tuna. Nancy & Bart - Kenora ON

Nearby Activities:

From Hope Town, Elbow Cay stretches a couple of miles to the north to a newly developed area called North Hope Town and five miles south to Tahiti Beach, a beautiful, sheltered, palm fringed beach. Tahiti Beach itself is easier to reach by boat. On the way to Tahiti Beach, by road, is another settled area called White Sound that also incorporates an impressive hotel, bar and restaurant. Sea Spray Resort and Marina also on White Sound has extensive services and the excellent Boathouse Restaurant If you are in the village; the beaches, restaurants, grocery stores and other services are within walking distance. The restaurants outside the village will send free transportation to pick you up. If you are staying outside of Hope Town you will require a boat or a golf cart to get back and forth to shops, restaurants and ferries. You can easily rent boats, golf carts or bicycles but you should make arrangements well in advance as they are often totally booked up.
