Anchor Inn by the Sea has vacation rental units located only 4 miles from downtown Ketchikan in one of the best shoreline fishing and whale watching areas that Ketchikan has to offer.

The guest suites are so close to the ocean, the view from your window is an active wildlife show. Bring your camera because otter, seals, and porpoises are frequently seen. Eagles nest close by and are often seen perched on a pole near the water or pulling a salmon from the ocean. On a high tide you could cast your fishing pole right from the deck!

The Inn has three private suites and one private room - all suites and the room have private baths and private entries. The one and two bedroom apartment suites are outfitted with everything you need to feel right at home - equipped stocked kitchens, dining area, living room and a full bath. All three suites have king-size beds, satellite TV with HBO and Showtime, private phones and either a full kitchen or a kitchenette. All guests at the Inn share a washer/dryer in the guest laundry room.

Ketchikan is well known as the salmon capital of the world and a paradise for sport fishermen and naturalists alike. During the summer months, our town bustles with visitors from all over the world. While the rustic boardwalk on Creek Street preserves a distinct historic feel, the town hums with new construction to keep up with the ever-expanding wave of tourism.
Ketchikan has a population of 14,500 and is built along a steep hillside, with sections of the town built right over the water on pilings. An outstanding collection of totem poles make a visit to Ketchikan essential for anyone interested in Native art. Ketchikan's name supposedly comes from the native term "Katch Kanna", which roughly translates: "spread wings of a thundering eagle" and rightly named, for you only need to look along the water line and you're likely to see many bald eagles on waterside perches.

Our beautiful town is located on the western coast of Revillagigedo Island, near the southernmost boundary of Alaska. It is 679 miles north of Seattle and 235 miles south of Juneau. The 2.2 million acre Misty Fjords National Monument lies 22 air miles east of Ketchikan. Ketchikan is the first Alaska port of call for northbound cruise ships and State ferries. It lies at approximately 55 20' N Latitude, 131 38' W Longitude. The area encompasses 3 sq. miles of land and 1 sq. miles of water. The area lies in the maritime climate zone noted for its warm winters, cool summers, and heavy precipitation. Summer temperatures range from 51 to 65; winter temperatures range from 29 to 39. Ketchikan averages 162 inches (13.5 feet) of precipitation annually, including 32 inches of snowfall.

Established originally as a fishing camp, Ketchikan today bustles with activity. Ketchikan almost seems today like it had been built for its many visitors. The Ketchikan Airport is located on its own island, Garvina Island. From Ketchikan's airport it is a short ferry ride across Tongass Narrows to the city of Ketchikan. We also welcome one or more Alaska State Ferries nearly everyday and cruise ships grace our harbor from May through September. On a busy day, we could have as many as 6 large cruise ships at a time in our harbor.

Nearby Activities:

Ketchikan Walking Tour:
is a world famous walking tour of historic Ketchikan which includes 25 points of interest within easy walking distance of the downtown area.

Creek Street:
a wooden street or board walk in the old "red light district" on which Ketchikan's famous Dolly's House is located.

Ketchikan Creek and Falls:
Enjoy the excellent views of the salmon runs that have made our town famous.

Totem Poles:
Ketchikan has one of the world's largest collection of totems. You will find totems in the Totem Heritage Center, downtown; in Saxman Totem Park, only l.5 miles north of Anchor Inn by the Sea; and at Totem Bight, a State Park 10 miles north of town.

Ketchikan Totem Heritage Center:
adjacent to the City Park between Deermount and Woodland Streets, The center contains some 33 original totem poles or pieces of poles collected from abandoned Tlingit or Haida Indian villages.

Deer Mountain Hatchery:
adjacent to the Totem Heritage Center within walking distance of downtown, releases tens of thousands of coho and king salmon smolts (two-year-olds) each year.

The Eagle Center:
is located next to the Deer Mountain Hatchery. This is your chance to see eagles up close.

Deer Mountain Trail:
There are many hiking trails in Ketchikan. One of my favorite hikes is the Deer Mountain Trail. It begins right in town just behind City Park. An easy but very steep hike.

Ward Lake Trail & Perseverance Trail:
A walk around Ward Lake is very refreshing. The one mile long nature trail was developed by the Forest Service. It is the area's easiest hike on mostly level ground. There are signs along the trail identifying trees species and information on animals in the area.
